DALLAS - Tomas is having a rough afternoon.
First, the budding young boxer in the bright red ballcap and Ringside sweat shirt - bearing much of the burden of his poor, immigrant Mexican family's American dreams - has to beg for work from Angel, a snake in a sharp suit. A little later, he nearly goes toe-to-toe with the shady Mr. X, punching the air and screaming at his retreating adversary, "Vente aqui! Vente aqui!"- "Come here! Come here!"
But the potential for violence doesn't alarm the circle of silent onlookers in the yard behind Casa Guanajuato, the squat, yellow-and-red brick rec center where Tomas hangs out, training for glory.
In fact, they were expecting it.
