Qld: 100th anniversary of world s first Labor premier marked

The 100th anniversary of the swearing in of the world's first Labor government has
been marked with the launch of a book on ANDERSON DAWSON'S seven days as Queensland premier.

Current Premier PETER BEATTIE's launched the book at Old Government House.

Mr DAWSON'S life included stints as a miner, newspaperman, republican, Queensland Premier,
federal Senator and federal Defence Minister.

In 1910, aged 47, he died a lonely death from alcoholism in a Brisbane hospital.

At the launch of Seven Days to Remember - the World's First Labor Government, Mr BEATTIE
said Mr DAWSON had made a significant contribution to the Labor Party, and Queensland.

Mr BEATTIE says the UK parliament will note the anniversary today in a motion to
be moved by Labor MP FRASER KEMP.

The Labor Party will place a commemorative headstone at Mr DAWSON'S grave in Brisbane's
Toowong Cemetery.
