The parents of teenagers who commit suicide often miss criticalsigns of psychological distress - particularly depression andsubstance abuse - until it is too late, according to a studyconducted by researchers at Ball State University and the New YorkState Psychiatric Institute.
Psychologist Drew M. Velting and his colleagues examined theaccounts of 52 teenagers under the age of 20 who were hospitalizedafter making serious suicide attempts and those of their parents.
