NSW:Former AFP employee charged
SYD
NEY, Dec 2 AAP - A man who has allegedly been found with more than 35,000 child-pornography
photographs used to work for the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
Police say they swooped on the Rosemeadow man's home in Sydney's southwest on Thursday,
seizing a computer, hard drives, AFP uniforms, batons, the photographs and about 800 videos
containing child abuse.
According to a police statement on Friday, the man had been in a position of authority
that gave him access to "emotionally and physically vulnerable children".
A spokeswoman from the AFP confirmed the man had worked for the law enforcement agency
between 1986 and 1990.
The pornographic images allegedly found at the man's home have concerned the investigation
team, Campbelltown Local Area Commander Superintendent Greg Rolph said.
"Many of the images depicted have left the investigation team, some with more than
20 years' investigations experience, extremely concerned about the obscene nature of what
they discovered," he said in a statement.
The 49-year-old man was arrested at the Rosemeadow home and taken to Campbelltown police
station, where he was charged with disseminating child pornography, three counts of possessing
child pornography, possessing a prohibited weapon and possessing ammunition without a
licence.
He is due to appear in Campbelltown Local Court on Friday, where further charges are
expected to be laid.
